I bring you some interesting news, regarding research by the Polytechnic University of Milan, which underlines the slight growth of the e-commerce sector, mainly due to mobile commerce activities (iPhone Apps primarily). After the "brake" recorded in 2009, online sales this year are making a leap forward of 14%, reaching 6.5 billion euros and exceeding the threshold of 1% of total retail sales. B2C ecommerce is therefore starting to grow again in Italy too. This was revealed by the 2010 research of the B2c eCommerce Observatory of the School of Management of the Polytechnic of Milan and of Netcomm , which also highlights a significant trend if evaluated from a long-term perspective: Mobile Commerce , which with diffusion of the new paradigm of Mobile Internet and Application Stores is starting to take shape.
Speaking of the Mobile phenomenon, Andrea Rangone - Head of ICT & Management Uruguay Mobile Number List Observatories at the Polytechnic University of Milan - says he is convinced that there will be good growth in this digital sales channel in the future, given the rapid diffusion in Italy of the latest generation smartphones, flat mobile phone surfing rates and the number of Mobile Surfers which today are over 11 million in Italy. For the moment, the m-commerce segment is worth just 0.2% of the total e-commerce market, or around 12 million euros.
The area with the greatest number of Mobile Commerce initiatives is that of air and rail transport (Lufthansa, Meridiana, Trenitalia, Volagratis) which represents approximately 30% of the value generated by mobile phone transactions. In the other sectors there were a limited number of initiatives (for example Bol, eBay, TicketOne, Yoox) and substantial uncertainty. During the conference that the Polytechnic organized to present the results of the research, the interest of users and the rapid growth trend of mobile transactions were confirmed by the managers present at the round table.
